Title : Bandits for healthcare

Abstract :

Personalized medicine targets the customization of treatment strategies to patients' individual characteristics. In this talk we will consider the problem of optimizing personalized pharmacological treatment strategies for cancer. We will formulate this problem as a contextual bandit and discuss the inherent challenges of the real-world application. I will explain how we tackled the problem using an extension of a subsampling bandit algorithm to Gaussian processes for (non-linear) contextual bandits. I will present some results obtained on a simulation setting, built from real data collected in a previous animal experiments. Note that the presented approach is currently being deployed in a partner wet lab.
