I understand that you are proficient in Computer Science (as a Master student).
The topic (about Autonomic Computing) also requires some skills in Statistics/Probabilities.
This is why I am asking these questions.

In order for you and for us to be satisfied with this PhD, we must be sure that
you are willing and able to learn in Statistics as needed by the topic.

What we propose: we can formulate (1/2 page) about a topic for PhD and ask you to write back 1/2 page with:
  • questions (what is unclear; what are the difficulties you expect)
  • suggestions (how you think you would start the study).
Again: 1/2 page.

The last question is: WHEN is needed a decision ?

I understand that you will apply for a grant from the Chinese Government for a PhD.
Needed:
  • A letter of invitation to apply before March 9.
  • A research plan with the topic;
  • Is something else needed ?
You send the canvas for the letter.

Next step:
  • We write 1/2 page: what we think would be a good topic for PhD
  • You reply 1/2 page: questions, expected bottlenecks, suggestions
  • We decide (next week): Y/N
  • If Y, we write the invitation letter and the research plan.
Is it agreed ?

Course in mathematical modelling.
Contents ?

  • Gaussian variables : YES
  • Distribution estimation :
  • Statistical test (are two series of data belonging to the same distribution) ?

Perhaps you studied this in statistics.
I understand that this was not the case.
Then we must be sure that you are prepared to study this kind os statistics in depth..

YOU CAN WRITE ON THE PAGE, PLEASE LIST WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN STUDYING IN THIS COURSE:
What I have learned are as following:

statistics and probability, matrix analysis, Calculus and Matlab

  • Regression (linear ?)
  • Distribution: moments
  • Random sampling
  • t-test ; Student distribution
